INTRODUCTION: Extensively and multi-drug resistant isolates of bacteria (MDR, XDR) have caused significant health problems and are responsible for high morbidity and mortality as well. In this critical condition, the discovery, design, or development of new antibiotics is of great concern. According to this necessity, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) suggested as promising agents. Accordingly, this study aims to evaluate the GKY25 peptide to develop its future antibacterial applications as well as confirmation of LPS neutralization. METHOD: Predictions of 3D structure and helical wheel projection analysis of the peptide were performed by I-TASSER and Heliquest servers. Binding affinity and antibacterial activity were performed using molecular docking and CAMPR4, respectively, followed by experimental binding assay as well as in vitro antibacterial assay. RESULT: GKY25 was predicted as an alpha-helical peptide, and its helicity showed probable projection of hydrophobic and positively-charged amino acid residues. Docking studies showed binding affinity of GKY25 peptide to gram-positive and outer and inner gram-negative bacterial membranes as -5.7, -6.8, and -4 kcal/mole, respectively. CAMPR4 analysis predicted the peptide as an AMP. Experimental binding assay showed that the peptide binds LPS immediately and their interaction was observed at 274 nm. CONCLUSION: Gathering all in silico and in vitro data together, GKY25 is a good drug lead that could be examined further using clinical isolates of gram-negative bacteria in vitro.

Sepsis is a syndrome involving complex pathophysiological and biochemical dysregulation. Nanotechnology can improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of sepsis and contribute to the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies to further reduce the risk of sepsis. Macrophages play a key role in the progression of sepsis, thus, macrophage-associated pathological processes are important targets for both diagnostic and treatment of sepsis. In this paper, we reviewed efforts in the past decade of nanotechnologybased solutions for manipulate macrophages in sepsis diagnosis and management according to the type of nanomaterial. We addressed the latest progress of nanoparticles targeting macrophages for early sepsis detection. Additionally, we summarized the unique advantages of macrophage-targeted nanoparticles in the treatment of sepsis. These nanoparticles can improve the dysregulation of inflammatory response in sepsis by inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors and regulating macrophage apoptosis, activity and polarization. Finally, we present future opportunities as well as challenges of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies with the aim of accelerating the clinical translation of nanomedicine for sepsis treatment.

Due to the high mortality rate of COVID-19 and its high variability and mutability, it is essential to know the body's defense mechanisms against this virus. Saliva has numerous functions, such as digestion, protection, and antimicrobial effects. Salivary diagnostic tests for many oral and systemic diseases will be available soon because saliva is a pool of biological markers. The most important antiviral and antibacterial compounds identified in saliva include lysozyme, lactoferrin (LF), mucins, cathelicidin, salivary secretory immunoglobulin (SIgA), chromogranin A, cathelicidin, salivary agglutinin (SAG) (gp340, DMBT1), α, β defensins, cystatin, histatins, secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI), heat shock protein (HSP), adrenomedullin and microRNA (miRNAs). Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in saliva could be used in the future as models for designing effective oral microbial antibiotics. The antiviral properties of the peptides in saliva may be one of the future treatments for the COVID-19 virus. In this review, we investigate compounds with antiviral and antibacterial properties in saliva and the importance of these compounds in saliva in exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Due to the transmission route of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) into the oral cavity in the lower and upper respiratory tract, studies of salivary antiviral properties in these patients are very important. Some of the antiviral effects of saliva, especially mucin, α, β-defensins, IgA, IgG, IgM, lysozyme, SAG, SLPI, and histatins, may play a greater role in neutralizing or eliminating COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: The IL-17 (interleukin 17) family consists of six structurally related pro-inflammatory cytokines, namely IL-17A to IL-17F. These cytokines have garnered significant scientific interest due to their pivotal role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Notably, a specific subset of T-cells expresses IL-17 family members, highlighting their importance in immune responses against microbial infections. INTRODUCTION: IL-17 cytokines play a critical role in host defense mechanisms by inducing cytokines and chemokines, recruiting neutrophils, modifying T-cell differentiation, and stimulating the production of antimicrobial proteins. Maintaining an appropriate balance of IL-17 is vital for overall health. However, dysregulated production of IL-17A and other members can lead to the pathogenesis of numerous inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. METHOD: This review provides a comprehensive overview of the IL-17 family and its involvement in several inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Relevant literature and research studies were analyzed to compile the data presented in this review. RESULTS: IL-17 cytokines, particularly IL-17A, have been implicated in the development of various inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, including multiple sclerosis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, systemic lupus erythematosus, pyoderma gangrenosum, autoimmune hepatic disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, and graft-versus-host disease. Understanding the role of IL-17 in these diseases is crucial for developing targeted therapeutic strategies. CONCLUSION: The significant involvement of IL-17 cytokines in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases underscores their potential as therapeutic targets. Current treatments utilizing antibodies against IL-17 cytokines and IL-17RA receptors have shown promise in managing these conditions. This review consolidates the understanding of IL-17 family members and their roles, providing valuable insights for the development of novel immunomodulators to effectively treat inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.

The poor water solubility of numerous novel drug candidates presents significant challenges, particularly in terms of oral delivery. This limitation can result in various undesirable clinical implications, such as inter-patient variability, poor bioavailability, difficulties in achieving a safe therapeutic index, increased costs, and potential risks of toxicity or inefficacy. Biopharmaceutics Classification System (BCS) class II drugs face particular hurdles due to their limited solubility in the aqueous media of the gastrointestinal tract. In such cases, parenteral administration is often employed as an alternative strategy. To address these challenges, nanosuspension techniques offer a promising solution for enhancing drug solubility and overcoming oral delivery obstacles. This technique has the potential to bridge the gap between drug discovery and preclinical use by resolving problematic solubility. This literature review has delved into contemporary nanosuspension preparation technologies and the incorporation of stabilizing ingredients within the formulation. Furthermore, the manuscript explores nanosuspension strategies for both oral and parenteral/other delivery routes, and separate discussions have been presented to establish a suitable flow that addresses the challenges and strategies relevant to each administration method.

BACKGROUND: Research proved that coenzyme Q10-loaded NLC effectively removes skin wrinkles, therefore, such a formulation with good characteristics is still the research goal. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the effect of solid lipids and surfactant type on the physical characteristics of Q10-NLC. We aimed to achieve the optimum formulation for producing NLC with long-term stability and high Entrapment efficiency (E.E.) %. We compared the experimental results with the output of the Molecular dynamic (M.D.) simulations. METHODS: To develop Q10-NLC, various solid lipids, MCT oil, and surfactants were employed. The formulations were prepared by high-shear homogenization and ultrasound methods. Stability studies were carried out 1,3, and 6 months at 4, 25, and 40°C. The optimized NLC formulations were characterized by photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). E.E. % was determined by HPLC analysis. Atomistic M.D. simulations of two model systems were performed to gain insights into the self-assembled process of co-Q10 with other formulation components. RESULTS: Statistical analysis (Two-way ANOVA) revealed that solid lipid and surfactant factors had a significant influence on particle size, PDI, and zeta potential (***p<0.0001). According to the results, F1 and F6 formulations had desirable surface characterizations, physicochemical stability, and high E.E.%. The atomistic M.D. simulations confirmed that the F1 system (best( was more stable than the F31 system (worst). CONCLUSION: The solid lipids: tripalmitin and compritol, stabilized with 4% tween 80 and 1% span 80, have produced stable NLC with the best surface characteristics that could be a promising formulation for the delivery of Q10. Atomistic M.D. simulation has confirmed the stability of F1 in comparison to F31.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, pulmonary fibrosis (PF) has increased in incidence and prevalence. Qingzaojiufei decoction (QD) is a herbal formula that is used for the treatment of PF. OBJECTIVE: In this research, network pharmacology and molecular docking methods were used to explore the major chemical components and potential mechanisms of QD in the treatment of PF. METHODS: The principal components and corresponding protein targets of QD were used to screen on Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP), Traditional Chinese Medicine Integrated Database (TCMID) and high-throughput experiment-and reference-guided database (HERB), Cytoscape 3.7.2 was used to construct the drug-component-target network. PF targets were collected by GeneCards and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) databases. The protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed by importing compound-disease intersection targets into the Search Tool for the Retrieval of Interacting Genes/Proteins (STRING) database and visualized by Cytoscape3.7.2. We further performed Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis on the intersecting targets. In the last, we validated the core targets and active compounds by molecular docking. RESULTS: The key compounds of quercetin, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate, and kaempferol of QD were obtained. The key targets of AKT1, TNF, and IL6 of QD were obtained. The molecular docking results show that quercetin, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate and kaempferol work well with AKT1, TNF and IL6. CONCLUSION: This research shows the multiple active components and molecular mechanism of QD in the treatment of PF and offers resources and suggestions for future studies.

BACKGROUND: Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) is a subtype of lung cancer with a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Previous studies show that some components of the cholinergic pathway may play important roles in the tumorigenesis of lung cancer, including LUSC. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to investigate the involvement of cholinergic genes in immune infiltration in LUSC, and identify the key genes in the pathway and analyze their potential as targets for LUSC treatment and novel drugs. METHODS: We first screened the cholinergic genes associated with immune infiltration in LUSC based on transcriptomic samples and explored the correlation between the key genes and immune infiltrating cells and immune pathways. Then, we assessed the effect of immunotherapeutic response in the high and low-expression groups of key genes in vitro. And finally, we screened potential drugs for the treatment of LUSC. RESULTS: We found that the expression of CHRNA6, the gene encoding the α6 subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR), was significantly correlated with the proportion of immune infiltrating cells in LUSC, and the high expression level of the gene was associated with poor prognosis of the disease. Also, the proportion of Tregs, M1 macrophages, and resting mast cells was correlated with the expression of CHRNA6. In addition, LUSC patients with higher CHRNA6 expression levels had better immunotherapy responses. Furthermore, we found that the drugs, i.e., adavosertib, varbulin and pyrazoloacridine, had a strong affinity with CHRNA6, with adavosertib binding most stably with the protein. CONCLUSION: CHRNA6 may be associated with immune infiltration in LUSC and affects patient prognosis and immunotherapeutic response by regulating immune cells and immune pathways. In addition, adavosertib may be a potential drug for the treatment of LUSC.

As the World Health Organization (WHO) declared, vaccines prevent an average of 2-3 million deaths yearly from diseases. However, effective prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines have yet to be developed for eradicating the deadliest diseases, viz., types of cancer, malaria, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and most serious microbial infections. Furthermore, scores of the existing vaccines have disadvantages, such as failure to completely stimulate the immune system, in vivo instability, high toxicity, need for the cold chain, and multiple administrations. Thus, good vaccine candidates need to be designed to elicit adaptive immune responses. In this line, the integration of sciences along with the use of various technologies has led to the emergence of a new field in vaccine production called biomimetic nanovaccines (BNVs). Given that, nanotechnology can significantly contribute to the design of such vaccines, providing them with enhanced specificity and potency. Nanoparticles (NPs) and biomimetic NPs (BNPs) are now exploited as the main carriers for drug delivery systems, especially BNPs, whose biological mimicry makes them escape the immune system and transport drugs to the desired target. The drug accordingly seeks to camouflage itself with the help of NPs and the membranes taken from cells in the human body, including red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), platelets, and cancer cells, for more effective and ideal delivery. As BNPs have recently become the center of attention in vaccine design, this review deliberates on the advances in BNVs.

Viral disease is a well-known cause of a significant impact on economic losses and threatens developed and developing societies. High mutation rates and the lack of ability of conventional formulations to target specific cells pose substantial hurdles to the successful treatment of viral diseases. <P/> Methods: We conducted a preliminary search by a standard procedure. With hand searching, we conducted an advanced search across several electronic databases. After defining the selection criteria, two writers independently reviewed and evaluated the first 500 abstracts before screening the remaining 300. Since there was 97% agreement on the screening decisions, only one reviewer conducted the screening. The pre-planned data extraction process was accomplished, and the thoroughness of the description of participation techniques was assessed. Additional data extraction was carried out for articles with the most detailed illustrations. Four stakeholder representatives co-authored this systematic review. <P/> Results: Incorporating selective carbohydrate polymers into the antiviral pharmaceutical compositions could help to manage biological complications associated with viral infections. We included 172 papers in which authors were involved in a systematic review. The present review explains the role of carbohydrate polymers (chitosan, carrageenan, alginate, cyclodextrin, dextran, and heparin) in the prevention and treatment of viral infections in terms of their source, molecular weight, surface charge, chemical composition, and structure. Additionally, the review describes the primary mechanism of drug delivery performance of carbohydrate polymers to improve the antiviral properties and pharmacokinetic behaviour of lamivudine, zidovudine, acyclovir, etc. <P/> Conclusion: The article discussed the role of carbohydrate polymers in mitigating virus-induced associated complications like bacterial infection, cardiovascular disorder, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorder. As a result, this work will provide valuable information to scientists, researchers, and clinicians for suitable carbohydrate polymer-based pharmaceutical development.

Local anesthetic (LA) compounds decrease the permeability of the ion channels to sodium, which in turn, diminishes the rate of depolarization. These agents (a.k.a. -caines) are also used to depress mucosal sensations, e.g., gag reflex in the form of topical anesthetics. Overdose of LA can lead to local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST), which is the precursor of potentially lethal consequences on clinical grounds. There is a wide array of possible presentations of LAST, from mild findings, such as temporary hypertensive events, to serious conditions, including refractory cardiac dysfunction, dysrhythmias and prearrest situations. Lidocaine, prilocaine, mepivacaine, ropivacaine, and bupivacaine are among the most commonly used members of the family. The agents' dosages should be adjusted in children, elderly and fragile individuals and those with organ failures, as the metabolism of the compounds will be impaired. The ideal body weight, along with hepatic and renal functional reserves, will have an impact on elimination kinetics. Systemic absorption is an untoward consequence of LA administration which deserves every means of prevention. Intravenous lipid emulsion is an important life-saving treatment in severe, life-threatening cases. This narrative review article is designed to cover the clinical uses of LA in children, recognition, and management of untoward effects of the agents, with special emphasis on the LAST.

BACKGROUND: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) are mainly known as anti-hypertensive drugs. Recent evidence suggests their anti-tumor potential against renal cancer. More than one-fourth of patients present with metastasis on their first visit. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the current study was to examine the potential clinical impact of ACEI/ARB on metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). METHODS: We searched through several online databases, including Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase, to find clinical studies that have investigated the association between treatment with ACEI/ARB and the survival of patients with mRCC. The hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were utilized to assess the strength of the association. RESULTS: A total of 6 studies with a total number of 2,364 patients were found eligible for the final analysis. The HR for the relationship between ACEI/ARB use and overall survival (OS) showed patients undergoing treatment with ACEI/ARB to have higher OS than non-users (HR: 0.664, 95% CI 0.577-0.764, p=0.000). Furthermore, the HR for the relationship between ACEI/ARB use and progression-free survival (PFS) showed patients undergoing treatment with ACEI/ARB to have higher PFS than non-users (HR: 0.734, 95% CI 0.695-0.794, p=0.000). CONCLUSION: The results of this review offer ACEI/ARB as a potential therapeutic option associated with improved survival outcomes in patients receiving anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy.

Scintigraphic imaging was satisfactory in animal experiments, i.e., in the radioimmunodetection with 125J anti-tissue polypeptide antigen monoclonal antibodies and implanted HELA cell carcinomas. Unlabeled anti-mouse antibodies (AMAB), in a surplus of 40:1, 200:1 and 4000:1 compared to the radioactive antibody, were administered five days after administering the 125I anti-TPA antibody (RAAB). In immunoscintigraphies, radioactivity accumulated in the liver immediately after administering the secondary antibody, and the tumor's imaging worsened. It can be expected that imunoscintigraphic imaging might improve when radioimmunodetection is re-performed after the formation of human anti-mouse antibodies (AMAB) and when the ratio of the primary to the secondary antibody is nearly equivalent because, in this ratio, the formation of immune complexes might be accelerated. It is possible to measure the quantity of formed anti-mouse antibodies (AMAB) with immunography measurements. A second administration of diagnostic or therapeutic monoclonal antibodies might lead to the formation of immune complexes if the quantities of the monoclonal antibodies and the anti-mouse antibodies have an equivalent ratio. A second performance of the radioimmunodetection four to eight weeks after the first radioimmunodetection can achieve better tumor imaging because human anti-mouse antibodies (AMAB) can be formed. Its numerous applications in the realms of science and technology, especially in biomedicine and bioinformatics, are witnessed deep learning (DL) applications significantly accelerate drug discovery and pharmaceutical research in recent years, and their usefulness has exceeded expectations and shown good promise in tackling a range of issues with drug discovery. Deep learning (DL) holds great potential for drug development since it allows for sophisticated image interpretation, molecular structure and function prediction, and the automated creation of novel chemical entities with specific features. In the process of drug discovery, deep learning (DL) can be incorporated at all stages like identification of targets, prognostic biomarkers, drug designing and development, synergism and antagonism prediction, etc. This review summarizes various approaches of deep learning (DL) in drug discovery like deep generative models for drug discovery, deep learning (DL) tools for drug discovery, synergy prediction, and precision medicine.

Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) has been associated with poor prognosis, reduced quality of life, and increased healthcare expenditure. Despite tremendous advances in HFrEF management, reduced survival and a high rate of hospitalization remain unsolved issues. Furthermore, HFrEF morbidity and economic burden are estimated to increase in the following years; hence, new therapies are constantly emerging. In the last few years, a series of landmark clinical trials have expanded our therapeutic armamentarium with a ground-breaking change in HFrEF-related outcomes. Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (mainly dapagliflozin and empagliflozin) have already revolutionized the management of HFrEF patients via a significant reduction in cardiovascular mortality and heart failure hospitalizations. Furthermore, vericiguat and omecamtiv mecarbil have emerged as promising and novel disease-modifying therapies. The former restores the impaired cyclic guanosine monophosphate pathway, and the latter stimulates cardiac myosin without marked arrhythmogenesis. Both vericiguat and omecamtiv mecarbil have been shown to reduce heart failure admissions. Sacubitril/valsartan is an established and effective therapy in HFrEF patients and should be considered as a replacement for angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) or angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). Lastly, inflammasome activity is implicated in HFrEF pathophysiology, and the role of anti-inflammatory agents in HFrEF trajectories is readily scrutinized, yet available therapies are ineffective. This mini-review summarizes the major and most recent studies in this field, thus covering the current advances in HFrEF therapeutics.

Nearly three years into the COVID-19 pandemic, there is still no effective treatment. In the meantime, more and more evidence indicate that gastrointestinal symptoms are important manifestations of COVID-19. Therefore, the involvement of multiple system symptoms brings a lot of burden and harm to patients. To our knowledge, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a remarkable effect on improving gastrointestinal function. In particular, a considerable number of clinical practices during the pandemic have demonstrated the significant value of electroacupuncture (EA) in regulating the gastrointestinal function of COVID-19. In summary, EA can regulate the gastrointestinal function of COVID-19. As more is learned about EA, its potential value in COVID-19 deserves further consideration. In this review, we will elucidate the potential efficacy and mechanism of EA in the treatment of gastrointestinal symptoms of COVID-19.

Artificial intelligence (AI) speeds up the drug development process and reduces its time, as well as the cost which is of enormous importance in outbreaks such as COVID-19. It uses a set of machine learning algorithms that collects the available data from resources, categorises, processes and develops novel learning methodologies. Virtual screening is a successful application of AI, which is used in screening huge drug-like databases and filtering to a small number of compounds. The brain's thinking of AI is its neural networking which uses techniques such as Convoluted Neural Network (CNN), Recursive Neural Network (RNN) or Generative Adversial Neural Network (GANN). The application ranges from small molecule drug discovery to the development of vaccines. In the present review article, we discussed various techniques of drug design, structure and ligand-based, pharmacokinetics and toxicity prediction using AI. The rapid phase of discovery is the need of the hour and AI is a targeted approach to achieve this.

Nanofibers have shown promising clinical results in the process of tissue regeneration since they provide a similar structure to the extracellular matrix of different tissues, high surface-to-volume ratio and porosity, flexibility, and gas permeation, offering topographical features that stimulate cell adhesion and proliferation. Electrospinning is one of the most used techniques for manufacturing nanomaterials due to its simplicity and low cost. In this review, we highlight the use of nanofibers produced with polyvinyl alcohol and polymeric associations (PVA/blends) as a matrix for release capable of modifying the pharmacokinetic profile of different active ingredients in the regeneration of connective, epithelial, muscular, and nervous tissues. Articles were selected by three independent reviewers by analyzing the databases, such as Web of Science, PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar (last 10 years). Descriptors used were "nanofibers", "poly (vinyl alcohol)", "muscle tissue", "connective tissue", "epithelial tissue", and "neural tissue engineering". The guiding question was: How do different compositions of polyvinyl alcohol polymeric nanofibers modify the pharmacokinetics of active ingredients in different tissue regeneration processes? The results demonstrated the versatility of the production of PVA nanofibers by solution blow technique with different actives (lipo/hydrophilic) and with pore sizes varying between 60 and 450 nm depending on the polymers used in the mixture, which influences the drug release that can be controlled for hours or days. The tissue regeneration showed better cellular organization and greater cell proliferation compared to the treatment with the control group, regardless of the tissue analyzed. We highlight that, among all blends, the combinations PVA/PCL and PVA/CS showed good compatibility and slow degradation, indicating their use in prolonged times of biodegradation, thus benefiting tissue regeneration in bone and cartilage connective tissues, acting as a physical barrier that results in guided regeneration, and preventing the invasion of cells from other tissues with increased proliferation rate.

Icacinaceae, an Angiospermic family comprising 35 genera and 212 accepted species, including trees, shrubs, and lianas with pantropical distribution, is one of the most outshining yet least explored plant families, which despite its vital role as a source of pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals has received a meagre amount of attraction from the scientific community. Interestingly, Icacinaceae is considered a potential alternative resource for camptothecin and its derivatives, which are used in treating ovarian and metastatic colorectal cancer. However, the concept of this family has been revised many times, but further recognition is still needed. The prime objective of this review is to compile the available information on this family in order to popularize it in the scientific community and the general population and promote extensive exploration of these taxa. The phytochemical preparations or isolated compounds from the Icacinaceae family have been centrally amalgamated to draw diverse future prospects from this inclusive plant species. The ethnopharmacological activities and the associated endophytes and cell culture techniques are also depicted. Nevertheless, the methodical evaluation of the Icacinaceae family is the only means to preserve and corroborate the folkloristic remedial effects and provide scientific recognition of its potencies before they are lost under the blanket of modernization.

Moxifloxacin (MOX) is a fourth-generation fluoroquinolone used in the form of tablets, infusion solutions and ophthalmic solutions. It does not have a physical-chemical or microbiological analytical method described in an official compendium. However, the literature shows some analysis methods for pharmaceuticals and biological matrices. In this context, the objective is to show the analytical methods present in the literature for the investigation of MOX by physical-chemical and microbiological techniques, as well as discussing them according to the requirements of current pharmaceutical analyses and green analytical chemistry. Among the physical-chemical methods present in the literature for MOX evaluation, 33% are HPLC, 21% are UV-Vis and 17% are capillary electrophoresis. On the other hand, among the microbiological methods, all of them are based on diffusion in agar. There is still scope in the literature to incorporate new and improved analytical methods for MOX evaluation, which adopt the concepts of green and sustainable analytical chemistry, either by using less (or not using) toxic organic solvents, reducing waste generation or even reducing the analysis time according to the intended objectives.
