Undesirable drug-drug interactions (DDIs) may lead to serious adverse side effects when more than two drugs are administered to a patient simultaneously. One of the most common DDIs is caused by unexpected inhibition of a specific human cytochrome P450 (CYP450), which plays a dominant role in the metabolism of the co-administered drugs. Therefore, a unified and reliable method for predicting the potential inhibitors of CYP450 family is extremely important in drug development. In this work, graph convolutional neural network (GCN) with attention mechanism and 1-D convolutional neural network (CNN) were used to extract the features of CYP ligands and the binding sites of CYP450 respectively, which were then combined to establish a unified GCN-CNN (GCNN) model for predicting the inhibitors of 5 dominant CYP isoforms, i.e., 1A2, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6, and 3A4. Overall, the established GCNN model showed good performances on the test samples and achieved better performances than the recently proposed iCYP-MFE model by using the same datasets. Based on the heat-map analysis of the resulting molecular graphs, the key structural determinants of the CYP inhibitors were further explored.

Development of in silico models that capture progression of diseases in soft biological tissues are intrinsic in the validation of the hypothesized cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the respective pathologies. In addition, they also aid in patient-specific adaptation of interventional procedures. In this regard, a fully-coupled high-fidelity Lagrangian finite element framework is proposed within this work which replicates the pathology of in-stent restenosis observed post stent implantation in a coronary artery. Advection-reaction-diffusion equations are set up to track the concentrations of the platelet-derived growth factor, the transforming growth factor-β, the extracellular matrix, and the density of the smooth muscle cells. A continuum mechanical description of volumetric growth involved in the restenotic process, coupled to the evolution of the previously defined vessel wall constituents, is presented. Further, the finite element implementation of the model is discussed, and the behavior of the computational model is investigated via suitable numerical examples. Qualitative validation of the computational model is presented by emulating a stented artery. Patient-specific data are intended to be integrated into the model to predict the risk of in-stent restenosis, and thereby assist in the tuning of stent implantation parameters to mitigate the risk.

Automatic polyp segmentation can help physicians to effectively locate polyps (a.k.a. region of interests) in clinical practice, in the way of screening colonoscopy images assisted by neural networks (NN). However, two significant bottlenecks hinder its effectiveness, disappointing physicians' expectations. (1) Changeable polyps in different scaling, orientation, and illumination, bring difficulty in accurate segmentation. (2) Current works building on a dominant decoder-encoder network tend to overlook appearance details (e.g., textures) for a tiny polyp, degrading the accuracy to differentiate polyps. For alleviating the bottlenecks, we investigate a hybrid semantic network (HSNet) that adopts both advantages of Transformer and convolutional neural networks (CNN), aiming at improving polyp segmentation. Our HSNet contains a cross-semantic attention module (CSA), a hybrid semantic complementary module (HSC), and a multi-scale prediction module (MSP). Unlike previous works on segmenting polyps, we newly insert the CSA module, which can fill the gap between low-level and high-level features via an interactive mechanism that exchanges two types of semantics from different NN attentions. By a dual-branch structure of Transformer and CNN, we newly design an HSC module, for capturing both long-range dependencies and local details of appearance. Besides, the MSP module can learn weights for fusing stage-level prediction masks of a decoder. Experimentally, we compared our work with 10 state-of-the-art works, including both recent and classical works, showing improved accuracy (via 7 evaluative metrics) over 5 benchmark datasets, e.g., it achieves 0.926/0.877 mDic/mIoU on Kvasir-SEG, 0.948/0.905 mDic/mIoU on ClinicDB, 0.810/0.735 mDic/mIoU on ColonDB, 0.808/0.74 mDic/mIoU on ETIS, and 0.903/0.839 mDic/mIoU on Endoscene. OBJECTIVE: Effective epileptic seizure prediction can make the patients know the onset of the seizure in advance to take timely preventive measures. Many studies based on machine learning methods have been proposed to tackle this problem and achieve significant progress in recent years. However, most studies treat each EEG training sample's contribution to the model as equal, while different samples have different predictive effects on epileptic seizures (e.g., preictal samples from different times). To this end, in this paper, we propose a general sample-weighted framework for patient-specific epileptic seizure prediction. METHODS: Specifically, we define the mapping from the sample weights of training sets to the performance of the validation sets as the fitness function to be optimized. Then, the genetic algorithm is employed to optimize this fitness function and obtain the optimal sample weights. Finally, we obtain the final model by using the training sets with optimized sample weights. RESULTS: To evaluate the effectiveness of our framework, we conduct extensive experiments on both traditional machine learning methods and prevalent deep learning methods. Our framework can significantly improve performance based on these methods. Among them, our framework based on Transformer achieves an average sensitivity of 94.6%, an average false prediction rate of 0.06/h, and an average AUC of 0.939 in 12 pediatric patients from the CHB-MIT database with the leave-one-out method, which outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. CONCLUSION: This study provides new insights into the field of epileptic seizure prediction by considering the discrepancies between EEG samples. Moreover, we develop a general sample-weighted framework, which applies to almost all classical classification methods and can significantly improve performance based on these methods.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered the best imaging modality for non-invasive observation of prostate cancer. However, the existing quantitative analysis methods still have challenges in patient-level prediction, including accuracy, interpretability, context understanding, tumor delineation dependence, and multiple sequence fusion. Therefore, we propose a topological graph-guided multi-instance network (GMINet) to catch global contextual information of multi-parametric MRI for patient-level prediction. We integrate visual information from multi-slice MRI with slice-to-slice correlations for a more complete context. A novel strategy of attention folwing is proposed to fuse different MRI-based network branches for mp-MRI. Our method achieves state-of-the-art performance for Prostate cancer on a multi-center dataset (N = 478) and a public dataset (N = 204). The five-classification accuracy of Grade Group is 81.1 ± 1.8% (multi-center dataset) from the test set of five-fold cross-validation, and the area under curve of detecting clinically significant prostate cancer is 0.801 ± 0.018 (public dataset) from the test set of five-fold cross-validation respectively. The model also achieves tumor detection based on attention analysis, which improves the interpretability of the model. The novel method is hopeful to further improve the accurate prediction ability of MRI in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

Ultrasound is a typical non-invasive diagnostic method often used to detect thyroid cancer lesions. However, due to the limitations of the information provided by ultrasound images, shear wave elastography (SWE) and color doppler ultrasound (CDUS) are also used clinically to assist in diagnosis, which makes the diagnosis time-consuming, labor-intensive, and highly subjective process. Therefore, automatic diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules is beneficial for the clinical diagnosis of the thyroid. To this end, based on three modalities of gray-scale ultrasound images(US), SWE, and CDUS, we propose a deep learning-based multi-modal feature fusion network for the automatic diagnosis of thyroid disease based on the ultrasound images. First, three ResNet18s initialized by self-supervised learning are used as branches to extract the image information of each modality, respectively. Then, a multi-modal multi-head attention branch is used to remove the common information of three modalities, and the knowledge of each modal is combined for thyroid diagnosis. At the same time, to better integrate the features between modalities, a multi-modal feature guidance module is also proposed to guide the feature extraction of each branch and reduce the difference between each-modal feature. We verify the multi-modal thyroid ultrasound image diagnosis method on the self-collected dataset, and the results prove that this method could provide fast and accurate assistance for sonographers in diagnosing thyroid nodules.

With the rapid development of science and technology, the trend of low age myopia is becoming increasingly significant. The latest national survey done by the Chinese government found that more than 80% of Chinese teenagers suffer from myopia. Adolescent myopia is closely related to living environment, heredity, and living habits. Quantifying the relationship between myopia and living environment, heredity, and living habits is conductive to the prevention and intervention of adolescent myopia. In this study, we investigated the relationships between four main factors (environment, habits, parental vision, and demographic) and myopia status by analyzing the questionnaire data. Data were collected from Chengdu, China in 2021, including 2808 myopia samples and 5693 non-myopia samples, with a total of 22 features. Then, these 22 features were inputted into three machine learning algorithms to discriminate the two classes of samples. Results show that the computational model could produce an AUC of 0.768. To pick out the most important features which play important roles in classification, we used incremental feature selection strategy to screen the 22 features. As a result, we found that the 4 most influential features with XGBoost could achieve a competitive AUC of 0.764. To further investigate the risk and protective factors affecting adolescent myopia, we used OR values derived from MLE-LR to analyze the relationship between 22 features and adolescent myopia. Results showed that the age variable was the most significant risk factor for myopia, followed by the myopia status of parents. The most protective factor for eyesight is the measure taken by the children, followed by the distance between books and eyes when reading. These discoveries can guide the prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents.

Embryo selection is a critical step in assisted reproduction: good selection criteria are expected to increase the probability of inducing a pregnancy. Machine learning techniques have been applied for implantation prediction or embryo quality assessment, which embryologists can use to make a decision about embryo selection. However, this is a highly uncertain real-world problem, and current proposals do not model always all the sources of uncertainty. We present a novel probabilistic graphical model that accounts for three different sources of uncertainty, the standard embryo and cycle viability, and a third one that represents any unknown factor that can drive a treatment to a failure in otherwise perfect conditions. We derive a parametric learning method based on the Expectation-Maximization strategy, which accounts for uncertainty issues. We empirically analyze the model within a real database consisting of 604 cycles (3125 embryos) carried out at Hospital Donostia (Spain). Embryologists followed the protocol of the Spanish Association for Reproduction Biology Studies (ASEBIR), based on morphological features, for embryo selection. Our model predictions are correlated with the ASEBIR protocol, which validates our model. The benefits of accounting for the different sources of uncertainty and the importance of the cycle characteristics are shown. Considering only transferred embryos, our model does not further discriminate them as implanted or failed, suggesting that the ASEBIR protocol could be understood as a thorough summary of the available morphological features.

It was important to understand the accurate mechanical properties of soft tissue for the evaluation of its injury, provide reliable protective ways or design effective human resist-injury devices. There was little study that clarified the difference between phenomenological models based on strain invariant and the principal stretches variables respectively although some quasi-static constitutive models of soft tissue were developed. In this study, we enumerate several typical hyperelastic models and derive the tensor equation of stress-strain based on continuum mechanics to fit the experimental data of human brain specimens under multiple loading modes in previous studies and give the coefficient of determination based on the least square fitting. It was suggested that two variable forms of phenomenological models with only the first strain invariant are consistent under uniaxial compression and tension, but the Cauchy stress tensor expressed by strain is completely different under simple shear loading. Also, the shear stress derived from the constitutive model based on strain invariants and principal stretchs has multiple relationships related to shear strain. The results in this study would be used to understand the more accurate mechanical characterization of soft tissue, which will allow us to evaluate the injury and develop much accurate injury criteria for soft tissue.

Usually, lesions are not isolated but are associated with the surrounding tissues. For example, the growth of a tumour can depend on or infiltrate into the surrounding tissues. Due to the pathological nature of the lesions, it is challenging to distinguish their boundaries in medical imaging. However, these uncertain regions may contain diagnostic information. Therefore, the simple binarization of lesions by traditional binary segmentation can result in the loss of diagnostic information. In this work, we introduce the image matting into the 3D scenes and use the alpha matte, i.e., a soft mask, to describe lesions in a 3D medical image. The traditional soft mask acted as a training trick to compensate for the easily mislabelled or under-labelled ambiguous regions. In contrast, 3D matting uses soft segmentation to characterize the uncertain regions more finely, which means that it retains more structural information for subsequent diagnosis and treatment. The current study of image matting methods in 3D is limited. To address this issue, we conduct a comprehensive study of 3D matting, including both traditional and deep-learning-based methods. We adapt four state-of-the-art 2D image matting algorithms to 3D scenes and further customize the methods for CT images to calibrate the alpha matte with the radiodensity. Moreover, we propose the first end-to-end deep 3D matting network and implement a solid 3D medical image matting benchmark. Its efficient counterparts are also proposed to achieve a good performance-computation balance. Furthermore, there is no high-quality annotated dataset related to 3D matting, slowing down the development of data-driven deep-learning-based methods. To address this issue, we construct the first 3D medical matting dataset. The validity of the dataset was verified through clinicians' assessments and downstream experiments. The dataset and codes will be released to encourage further research.1.

Aiming at the problem that the single CT image signal feature recognition method in the self-diagnosis of diseases cannot accurately and reliably classify COVID-19, and it is easily confused with suspected cases. The collected CT signals and experimental indexes are extracted to construct different feature vectors. The support vector machine is optimized by the improved whale algorithm for the preliminary diagnosis of COVID-19, and the basic probability distribution function of each evidence is calculated by the posterior probability modeling method. Then the similarity measure is introduced to optimize the basic probability distribution function. Finally, the multi-domain feature fusion prediction model is established by using the weighted D-S evidence theory. The experimental results show that the fusion of multi-domain feature information by whale optimized support vector machine and improved D-S evidence theory can effectively improve the accuracy and the precision of COVID-19 autonomous diagnosis. The method of replacing a single feature parameter with multi-modal indicators (CT, routine laboratory indexes, serum cytokines and chemokines) provides a more reliable signal source for the diagnosis model, which can effectively distinguish COVID-19 from the suspected cases.

OBJECTIVE: To develop a two-step machine learning (ML) based model to diagnose and predict involvement of lungs in COVID-19 and non COVID-19 pneumonia patients using CT chest radiomic features. METHODS: Three hundred CT scans (3-classes: 100 COVID-19, 100 pneumonia, and 100 healthy subjects) were enrolled in this study. Diagnostic task included 3-class classification. Severity prediction score for COVID-19 and pneumonia was considered as mild (0-25%), moderate (26-50%), and severe (>50%). Whole lungs were segmented utilizing deep learning-based segmentation. Altogether, 107 features including shape, first-order histogram, second and high order texture features were extracted. Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC≥90%) followed by different features selection algorithms were employed. ML-based supervised algorithms (Naïve Bays, Support Vector Machine, Bagging, Random Forest, K-nearest neighbors, Decision Tree and Ensemble Meta voting) were utilized. The optimal model was selected based on precision, recall and area-under-curve (AUC) by randomizing the training/validation, followed by testing using the test set. RESULTS: Nine pertinent features (2 shape, 1 first-order, and 6 second-order) were obtained after features selection for both phases. In diagnostic task, the performance of 3-class classification using Random Forest was 0.909±0.026, 0.907±0.056, 0.902±0.044, 0.939±0.031, and 0.982±0.010 for precision, recall, F1-score, accuracy, and AUC, respectively. The severity prediction task using Random Forest achieved 0.868±0.123 precision, 0.865±0.121 recall, 0.853±0.139 F1-score, 0.934±0.024 accuracy, and 0.969±0.022 AUC. CONCLUSION: The two-phase ML-based model accurately classified COVID-19 and pneumonia patients using CT radiomics, and adequately predicted severity of lungs involvement. This 2-steps model showed great potential in assessing COVID-19 CT images towards improved management of patients.

Cytopathologists examine microscopic images obtained at various magnifications to identify malignancy in effusions. They locate the malignant cell clusters at a low magnification and then zoom in to investigate cell-level features at a high magnification. This study predicts the malignancy at low magnification levels such as 4X and 10X in effusion cytology images to reduce scanning time. However, the most challenging problem is annotating the low magnification images, particularly the 4X images. This paper extends two semi-supervised learning (SSL) models, MixMatch and FixMatch, for semantic segmentation. The original FixMatch and MixMatch algorithms are designed for classification tasks. While performing image augmentation, the generated pseudo labels are spatially altered. We introduce reverse augmentation to compensate for the effect of the spatial alterations. The extended models are trained using labelled 10X and unlabelled 4X images. The average F-score of benign and malignant pixels on the predictions of 4X images is improved approximately by 9% for both Extended MixMatch and Extended FixMatch respectively compared with the baseline model. In the Extended MixMatch, 62% sub-regions of low magnification images are eliminated from scanning at a higher magnification, thereby saving scanning time.

This article presents a novel end-to-end automatic solution for semantic segmentation of optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. OCT is a non-invasive imaging technology widely used in clinical practice due to its ability to acquire high-resolution cross-sectional images of the ocular fundus. Due to the large variability of the retinal structures, OCT segmentation is usually carried out manually and requires expert knowledge. This study introduces a novel fully convolutional network (FCN) architecture designated by LOCTSeg, for end-to-end automatic segmentation of diagnostic markers in OCT b-scans. LOCTSeg is a lightweight deep FCN optimized for balancing performance and efficiency. Unlike state-of-the-art FCNs used in image segmentation, LOCTSeg achieves competitive inference speed without sacrificing segmentation accuracy. The proposed LOCTSeg is evaluated on two publicly available benchmarking datasets: (1) annotated retinal OCT image database (AROI) comprising 1136 images, and (2) healthy controls and multiple sclerosis lesions (HCMS) consisting of 1715 images. Moreover, we evaluated the proposed LOCTSeg with a private dataset of 250 OCT b-scans acquired from epiretinal membrane (ERM) and healthy patients. Results of the evaluation demonstrate empirically the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, which improves the state-of-the-art Dice score from 69% to 73% and from 91% to 92% on AROI and HCMS datasets, respectively. Furthermore, LOCTSeg outperforms comparable lightweight FCNs' Dice score by margins between 4% and 15% on ERM segmentation.

Recent studies have demonstrated the superiority of deep learning in medical image analysis, especially in cell instance segmentation, a fundamental step for many biological studies. However, the excellent performance of the neural networks requires training on large, unbiased dataset and annotations, which is labor-intensive and expertise-demanding. This paper presents an end-to-end framework to automatically detect and segment NeuN stained neuronal cells on histological images using only point annotations. Unlike traditional nuclei segmentation with point annotation, we propose using point annotation and binary segmentation to synthesize pixel-level annotations. The synthetic masks are used as the ground truth to train the neural network, a U-Net-like architecture with a state-of-the-art network, EfficientNet, as the encoder. Validation results show the superiority of our model compared to other recent methods. In addition, we investigated multiple post-processing schemes and proposed an original strategy to convert the probability map into segmented instances using ultimate erosion and dynamic reconstruction. This approach is easy to configure and outperforms other classical post-processing techniques. This work aims to develop a robust and efficient framework for analyzing neurons using optical microscopic data, which can be used in preclinical biological studies and, more specifically, in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. Preoperative assessment of the difficulty of tracheal intubation is of great importance in anesthesia practice because failed intubation can lead to severe complications and even death. The Mallampati score is widely used as a critical assessment criterion in combination with other measures to assess the difficulty of tracheal intubation. The performance of existing methods for Mallampati classification with artificial intelligence (AI) is unreliable to the extent that the current clinical judgment of the Mallampati score relies entirely on doctors' experience. In this paper, we propose a new method for automatic Mallampati classification. Our method extracts deep features that are more favorable for the Mallampati classification task by introducing an attention mechanism into the basic deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) and then further improves the classification performance by jointly using attention-based deep features with handcrafted features. We conducted experiments on a dataset consisting of 321 oral images collected online. The proposed method has a classification accuracy of 97.50%, a sensitivity of 96.52%, a specificity of 98.05%, and an F1 score of 96.52% after five-fold cross-validation. The experimental results show that our proposed method is superior to other methods, can assist doctors in determining Mallampati class objectively and accurately, and provide an essential reference element for assessing the difficulty of tracheal intubation.

AIM OF STUDY: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive brain cancer in adults that kills most patients in the first year due to ineffective treatment. Different clinical, biomedical, and image data features are needed to analyze GBM, increasing complexities. Besides, they lead to weak performances for machine learning models due to ignoring physicians' knowledge. Therefore, this paper proposes a hierarchical model based on Fuzzy C-mean (FCM) clustering, Wrapper feature selection, and twelve classifiers to analyze treatment plans. METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: The proposed method finds the effectiveness of previous and current treatment plans, hierarchically determining the best decision for future treatment plans for GBM patients using clinical data, biomedical data, and different image data. A case study is presented based on the Cancer Genome Atlas Glioblastoma Multiforme dataset to prove the effectiveness of the proposed model. This dataset is analyzed using data preprocessing, experts' knowledge, and a feature reduction method based on the Principal Component Analysis. Then, the FCM clustering method is utilized to reinforce classifier learning. OUTCOMES OF STUDY: The proposed model finds the best combination of Wrapper feature selection and classifier for each cluster based on different measures, including accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, F-score, and G-mean according to a hierarchical structure. It has the best performance among other reinforced classifiers. Besides, this model is compatible with real-world medical processes for GBM patients based on clinical, biomedical, and image data.

The performance of deep learning-based medical image segmentation methods largely depends on the segmentation accuracy of tissue boundaries. However, since the boundary region is at the junction of areas of different categories, the pixels located at the boundary inevitably carry features belonging to other classes and difficult to distinguish. This paper proposes a fine-grained contextual modeling network for medical image segmentation based on boundary semantic features, FBCU-Net, which uses the semantic features of boundary regions to reduce the influence of irrelevant features on boundary pixels. First, based on the discovery that indistinguishable pixels are usually boundary pixels in medical images, we introduce new supervision information to find and classify boundary pixels. Second, based on the existing relational context modeling schemes, we generate the boundary region representations representing the semantic features of boundary regions. Last, we use boundary region representations to reduce the influence of irrelevant features on boundary pixels and generate highly discriminative pixel representations. Furthermore, to enhance the attention of the network to the boundary region, we also propose the boundary enhancement strategy. We evaluate the proposed model on five datasets, TUI (Thyroid Tumor), ISIC-2018 (Dermoscopy), 2018 Data Science Bowl (Cell Nuclei), Glas (Colon Cancer), and BUSI (Breast Cancer). The results show that FBCU-Net has better boundary segmentation performance and overall performance for different medical images than other state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods, and has great potential for clinical application.

Chest X-ray (CXR) images are considered useful to monitor and investigate a variety of pulmonary disorders such as COVID-19, Pneumonia, and Tuberculosis (TB). With recent technological advancements, such diseases may now be recognized more precisely using computer-assisted diagnostics. Without compromising the classification accuracy and better feature extraction, deep learning (DL) model to predict four different categories is proposed in this study. The proposed model is validated with publicly available datasets of 7132 chest x-ray (CXR) images. Furthermore, results are interpreted and explained using Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM), Local Interpretable Modelagnostic Explanation (LIME), and SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) for better understandably. Initially, convolution features are extracted to collect high-level object-based information. Next, shapely values from SHAP, predictability results from LIME, and heatmap from Grad-CAM are used to explore the black-box approach of the DL model, achieving average test accuracy of 94.31 ± 1.01% and validation accuracy of 94.54 ± 1.33 for 10-fold cross validation. Finally, in order to validate the model and qualify medical risk, medical sensations of classification are taken to consolidate the explanations generated from the eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) framework. The results suggest that XAI and DL models give clinicians/medical professionals persuasive and coherent conclusions related to the detection and categorization of COVID-19, Pneumonia, and TB.

Thyroid cancer has been the most prevalent cancer in the recent three decades. Ultrasonography is one of the mainly used methods for diagnosing thyroid nodules. Several computer-aided diagnostic methods were proposed to aid radiologists in analyzing ultrasound images of the thyroid gland. Most methods, however, only determine the benignity or malignancy of the thyroid nodule and do not explain the decision-making process of them, which cannot gain the trustworthiness of clinicians because they are not consistent with the physician's diagnostic process. In our work, we design a multi-task branching attention network in which each of the descriptors of the ACR TI-RADS lexicon is first classified. All respective scores are calculated to get the risk stratification of the nodule. Ultimately, based on the risk stratification, the benignity or malignancy of the nodule is determined. This work provides an automated method that incorporates the ACR TI-RADS characterization of thyroid nodules for detecting the level of risk and the benignity or malignancy of thyroid nodules. Thus the work establishes the trustworthiness of clinicians in deep learning models and improves physician efficiency and diagnostic rates to some extent compared to previous studies. For the diagnosis of thyroid nodules, evaluation indices including accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were 93.55%, 93.86%, and 93.14%, respectively. The experiments show that our approach obtains comparable performance to most advanced methods in diagnosing ultrasound images of the thyroid nodules and is supported by explanations in clinical terms using the ACR TI-RADS lexicon.

The recent investigation has started for evaluating the human respiratory sounds, like voice recorded, cough, and breathing from hospital confirmed Covid-19 tools, which differs from healthy person's sound. The cough-based detection of Covid-19 also considered with non-respiratory and respiratory sounds data related with all declared situations. Covid-19 is respiratory disease, which is usually produced by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). However, it is more indispensable to detect the positive cases for reducing further spread of virus, and former treatment of affected patients. With constant rise in the COVID-19 cases, there has been a constant rise in the need of efficient and safe ways to detect an infected individual. With the cases multiplying constantly, the current detecting devices like RT-PCR and fast testing kits have become short in supply. An effectual Covid-19 detection model using devised hybrid Honey Badger Optimization-based Deep Neuro Fuzzy Network (HBO-DNFN) is developed in this paper. Here, the audio signal is considered as input for detecting Covid-19. The gaussian filter is applied to input signal for removing the noises and then feature extraction is performed. The substantial features, like spectral roll-off, spectral bandwidth, Mel frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCC), spectral flatness, zero crossing rate, spectral centroid, mean square energy and spectral contract are extracted for further processing. Finally, DNFN is applied for detecting Covid-19 and the deep leaning model is trained by designed hybrid HBO algorithm. Accordingly, the developed Hybrid HBO method is newly designed by incorporating Honey Badger optimization Algorithm (HBA) and Jaya algorithm. The performance of developed Covid-19 detection model is evaluated using three metrics, like testing accuracy, sensitivity and specificity. The developed Hybrid HBO-based DNFN is outpaced than other existing approaches in terms of testing accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of "0.9176, 0.9218 and 0. 9219". All the test results are validated with the k-fold cross validation method in order to make an assessment of the generalizability of these results. When k-fold value is 9, sensitivity of existing techniques and developed JHBO-based DNFN is 0.8982, 0.8816, 0.8938, and 0.9207. The sensitivity of developed approach is improved by means of gaussian filtering model. The specificity of DCNN is 0.9125, BI-AT-GRU is 0.8926, and XGBoost is 0.9014, while developed JHBO-based DNFN is 0.9219 in k-fold value 9.

Gastrointestinal (GI) diseases are serious health threats to human health, and the related detection and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases place a huge burden on medical institutions. Imaging-based methods are one of the most important approaches for automated detection of gastrointestinal diseases. Although deep neural networks have shown impressive performance in a number of imaging tasks, its application to detection of gastrointestinal diseases has not been sufficiently explored. In this study, we propose a novel and practical method to detect gastrointestinal disease from wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) images by convolutional neural networks. The proposed method utilizes three backbone networks modified and fine-tuned by transfer learning as the feature extractors, and an integrated classifier using ensemble learning is trained to detection of gastrointestinal diseases. The proposed method outperforms existing computational methods on the benchmark dataset. The case study results show that the proposed method captures discriminative information of wireless capsule endoscopy images. This work shows the potential of using deep learning-based computer vision models for effective GI disease screening.

Reconstructing zero-filled MR images (ZF) from partial k-space by convolutional neural networks (CNN) is an important way to accelerate MRI. However, due to the lack of attention to different components in ZF, it is challenging to learn the mapping from ZF to targets effectively. To ameliorate this issue, we propose a Detail and Structure Mutually Enhancing Network (DSMENet), which benefits from the complementary of the Structure Reconstruction UNet (SRUN) and the Detail Feature Refinement Module (DFRM). The SRUN learns structure-dominated information at multiple scales. And the DRFM enriches detail-dominated information from coarse to fine. The bidirectional alternate connections then exchange information between them. Moreover, the Detail Representation Construction Module (DRCM) extracts valuable initial detail representation for DFRM. And the Detail Guided Fusion Module (DGFM) facilitates the deep fusion of these complementary information. With the help of them, various components in ZF can be applied with discriminative attentions and mutually enhanced. In addition, the performance can be further improved by the Deep Enhanced Restoration (DER), a strategy based on recursion and constrain. Extensive experiments on fastMRI and CC-359 datasets demonstrate that DSMENet has robustness in terms of various body parts, under-sampling rates, and masks. Furthermore, DSMENet can achieve promising performance on qualitative and quantitative results, especially the competitive NMSE of 0.0268, PSNE of 33.7, and SSIM of 0.7808 on fastMRI 4 × single-coil knee leaderboard.

SARS-COV-2 virus causes (COVID-19) disease; it has become a global pandemic since 2019 and has negatively affected all aspects of human life. Scientists have made great efforts to find a reliable cure, vaccine, or treatment for this emerging disease. Efforts have been directed towards using medicinal plants as alternative medicines, as the active chemical compounds in them have been discovered as potential antiviral or anti-inflammatory agents. In this research, the potential of Saussurea costus (S. Costus) or QUST Al Hindi chemical consistent as potential antiviral agents was investigated by using computational methods such as Reverse Docking, ADMET, and Molecular Dynamics with different proteases COVID-19 such as PDB: 2GZ9; 6LU7; 7AOL, 6Y2E, 6Y84. The results of Reverse Docking the complex between 6LU7 proteases and Cynaropicrin compound being the best complex, as the same result, is achieved by molecular dynamics. Also, the toxicity testing result from ADMET method proved that the complex is the least toxic and the safest possible drug. In addition, 6LU7-Cynaropicrin complex obeyed Lipinski rule; it formed ≤5 H-bond donors and ≤10 H bond acceptors, MW < 500 Daltons, and octanol/water partition coefficient <5.

The fusion of mammography and ultrasound images helps to improve tumor classification accuracy. However, traditional fusion models ignore the correlation between these two modalities, resulting in limited performance improvement. To address this problem, a modality-correlation embedding model was proposed for breast tumor diagnosis by combining mammography and ultrasound imaging. By jointly optimizing the correlation between mammography and ultrasound and classification loss of individual modalities, two mappings are learned to project mammography and ultrasound from their original feature spaces into a common label space. A novel modality-correlation term is introduced to maintain the pairwise closeness of multimodal data in the common label space. Contrary to previous studies that did not consider the correlation between multimodal data, the proposed term can exploit the learned correlation information in the fusion process, which guarantees the consistency of the diagnosis results of multimodal images from the same patient. The proposed method was evaluated on our dataset, which contained ultrasound and mammography images from 73 patients. The area under the ROC curve, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value were 95.83, 95, 91.67, 95.83, 95.83, and 88.89%, respectively. The experimental results also demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms traditional fusion methods.
